TownHall - Office 2016 (License Activation Issue)

Removed office 2010

remove reg keys:

  1. Close the activation window and all Office apps.
  2. Right-click the Start button de9c1ffe-f29a-47b1-a811-95ca547d07c6.png on the lower-left corner of your screen, and select Run.
  3. Type regedit, and then press Enter. Select Yes when prompted to open the Registry Editor.
  4. On the left side of the Registry Editor, under Computer, navigate to the following key in the registry:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\OEM

  5. Right click the OEM value and click File>Export.
  6. Save the key.
  7. After the key is backed up, select Edit>Delete.
  8. Repeat steps 3-6 for the following key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\OEM

  9. Close the Registry Editor and start Office again.

Open an elevated command prompt and change directory to the c:\program files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office16 (mine is 32 bit. Users with 64 bit version of Office would change directory to c:\program files\Microsoft Office\Office16).

1. Type in cscript ospp.vbs /dstatus.

This will list the currently installed Office products. In my situation I had both Office16StandardVL_MAK and Office160365HomePremR_Grace (last 5 of product key: KHGM9). This shouldn't be there considering we uninstalled this application.

IMPORTANT! - Note the last 5 characters of installed product for the Office16036HomePremR_Grace. Mine was KHGM9 and will be needed in needed in step 2.

2. type in Cscript ospp.vbs /unpkey:khgm9

If your product key was different, substitute the khgm9 with the characters noted in step one.

Folks,

Rana Gaither has an unlicensed version of 2016. I tried to install with a known good code I had gotten from Joe, but that’s not working.

I also tried to activate with her email, but said she didn’t have a license.

I’m just trying to figure out what the process is.
